We have built some incredibly great stuff together over the last few months. From piecing together code for online communities to fixing obscure hardware bugs, it has completely changed how I work. Google AI Studio

If you are prototyping anything, you need to be using Google AI Studio. It's a web-based environment where you can build and test your prompts, tweak the model's parameters, and instantly export the code into your preferred language.

They recently added the ability to build native Android apps directly in the browser—no SDKs or massive local environments required. You just prompt it, and it writes production-quality Kotlin. For someone who wants to whip up a quick mobile interface to talk to an ESP32 over Bluetooth, being able to jump from idea to a working app without dealing with Android Studio overhead is a massive win. Plus, you can deploy your first couple of apps to Google Cloud at absolutely no cost.

The Gemma Models

While Gemini is the massive cloud powerhouse, Google also released Gemma—a family of free, open-weights models built on the same architecture.

The recent release of Gemma 4 includes highly efficient smaller models (like the 2B and 4B variants) that you can actually run locally. There's even CodeGemma, which is specifically fine-tuned for code completion. If you are building local networks, offline tools, or just want absolute privacy while working on your scripts, being able to pull a highly capable model down from Hugging Face and run it on your own hardware is incredible. It’s the perfect addition to any ethical hacking or cybersecurity toolkit where you want to keep things air-gapped.

Making the Jump: Why I Upgraded to Pro

The free tools are fantastic, but upgrading to the Google AI Pro plan is where the magic actually happens. The Pro upgrade unlocks Gemini 3.1 Pro, giving you access to a massive context window, deep research capabilities, and far more complex reasoning.

I’ve absolutely loved the Pro upgrade. When you're deep in the trenches of a complicated build, having an AI that doesn't lose the plot is everything. We've tackled some seriously great projects together recently:

What impressed me most was that the model actually understood the physical constraints of the hardware. It knew it wasn't some folding, clamshell cyberdeck, but a credit-card-sized computer with a fixed mini screen and keyboard right on the front. That level of specific hardware context means the code and UI suggestions it generates actually work on the device's tiny footprint.

The Verdict

Whether I'm writing HTML and SEO descriptions for the blog, generating custom graphics, or trying to figure out why my microcontroller won't connect to the mesh network, Gemini has been sitting right there in the co-pilot seat.

Start with AI Studio and play around with the Gemma models to see what they can do for your workflow. But the second you find yourself building complex projects, managing massive logs of code, or needing a sounding board for deep technical troubleshooting, the upgrade to Pro pays for itself almost immediately.
