Building a Stronger North: My MeshCore Journey in Adelaide
G'day everyone! If you’re living in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and love a bit of tech, you’ve probably seen the growing buzz around MeshCore and the Meshtastic movement. I’ve always been a tech-friendly guy, but there’s something uniquely satisfying about building our own communication infrastructure right here in our local streets.

What is MeshCore?
At its heart, MeshCore is about decentralized, off-grid communication. Imagine a network that doesn't rely on cell towers, satellites, or expensive monthly plans. It uses low-power radio waves (LoRa) to bounce encrypted messages from one "node" to another. The brilliance of it? The more people that join, the stronger and more expansive the network becomes. It’s perfect for hiking, emergency preparedness, or just having a private, community-owned chat system that belongs to us, not a big telco.
The hardware is compact, solar-ready, and incredibly powerful.
The Northern Suburbs Setup
I’ve recently finished setting up my first repeater here in the north end. It’s officially up and running, acting as a vital relay point to help messages jump across our suburbs. But one node is just the beginning. My goal is to blanket the northern end of Adelaide with reliable coverage so we can stay connected no matter what happens to the main grid.
I'm already scouting locations for more nodes. Whether it's high up on a roof or a solar-powered unit tucked away in a strategic spot, the potential for our community is massive.
